What Is Gangrene ?




Define Gangrene
It is defined as obstruction of blood flow causes damage to body tissues. It commonly appears on arms and legs. People with diabetes and weak arteries can be easily affected by gangrene.
It can also be caused by bacterial infections.

How to detect Gangrene?
Gangrene symptoms can be analyzed through skin appearance like:
Skin color changes from normal skin tone to red, blue and lastly it turns into black
Skin cold on touch
Extreme pain
Blisters
Numbness
Watery sores with foul smelling discharge
Low grade fever

If gangrene caused due to bacterial infection it leads to septic shock:
Breathing difficulty
Low grade fever
Blood pressure dropped
Increases heart rate

What are the types of gangrene?
It is divided into 3 types
Dry gangrene:
It occurs in diabetes or atherosclerosis
It grows slowly
Skin discoloration from brown to black color

Wet gangrene
It is very harmful and can spread very easily
Mostly occurred after any injury and trauma
Blisters
Foul smelling discharge from sores

Gas gangrene
It involves deep muscle tissue
Skin discoloration from normal to pale to gray and when it worsens it turns into purple red
It is caused due to wounds after surgery that are affected by bacterial growth
It is life threatening

Blood clotting
Narrowed arteries
After severe injury
Open wound
Obesity
Smoking
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
chemotherapy
