What we know about skin disease called “Scabies” ?
Scabies is a skin infestation caused by tiny mite called Sarcoptes scabiei, which burrows into the upper skin layer and lays its egg. It is highly contagious, and usually spread via a close skin to skin contact with scabies infected person.
Scabies leads to intense itching, urge to scratch the skin or angry pimple like rashes on skin.
What are the causes of Scabies?
It is caused due to microscopic mite called Sarcoptes scabiei, it burrows inside the skin and make its tunnel where tiny mite lay its egg. These eggs get mature and spread throughout the body.
How do we catch Scabies?
Mostly people get scabies while roaming in crowded place
Direct, close skin contacts
sexual activity
Sharing of clothes like towels or bedding of infected person
What are the symptoms of Scabies?
Excessive Itching
Itching increases at night leads to skin scratching
Skin bumps
Appearance of burrows on skin folds most commonly on inner elbows, around the breast, between fingers, in armpits, around male genitals, on the buttocks or knees
In infants and young children symptoms appears on:
Scalp or palms
soles
Intense itching
Pimple-like rash
Scales
Blisters
Sores
How to prevent Scabies?
Wash the clothes with hot water frequently
Dry the clothes with high heat
keep all the item out of touch which are not washable
Use disposable gloves or shoes
Avoid using the infected person clothes
Do not use infected bedding
